After the NPC saga, Chris was one of the many InTuners who had vowed never to return after the humiliation. (Who was that who said something about hot air...?) During the week, Jamo, the dude who organized the whole thing, made a reconciliatory call to clear things up over what had transpired: I call it 'reconciliatory' because nobody was honestly quite happy with the first time round. He however apologized on behalf of their youth leader Sly (is her name a coincidence? No pun intended) and told us that we were requested to make an appearance the following Sunday.
Just like Kenyans, quickly forgetting the past experiences, there was renewed vigour within the camp as everyone was co-operative on what had to be done, practice and all. Edwin smiled for the first time this century and Jona was back with a vengeance. On top of that, if you discover Jose and Ted Okoth hyper active, then you definately know theres something thorough cooking! We met on Saturday and had our practice which I must say was very productive. Phillipians 4:13 tells us that we '...can do all things through Christ who strengthens...' us, and with that we were prepared for 'the Comeback'. It was official wear yet again, with a few guys, no names mentioned, remixxing. I won't clear the air on that one.
The venue was the NPC Youth Church, otherwise known as Beacons. We were bright and early, at 10.00am, even earlier than our host Gatiba, but that didn't deter us. It was practice time, just for voice warm up, only to be graced by Sly herself and Jamo. She earnestly apologized again for the previous week's frakas and just to make us happy, gave us two slots for that service. The songs that popped into evryones minds were 'Can you see His blood' and 'Truth was Standing'. The deal wa sealed. We thanked her then had a word of prayer and moved in, surprisingly directed to the front of the Church!
The adamant nature of most of the guys was clearly visible with the Atebes recalcitrant and laid back and Joseph Kongoro looking like the end of the wold was here with us. I guess some of the evident change was as a result of unfamiliar surroundings. Who can blame them? Not to say that I was the coolest cat on the alley anyhow, but I was braced for anything.
A rather lengthly praise and worship session preceeded the opening prayer and then the announcements. It would seem that they were to go for camp the following thursday and there would be a mother-daughter day, some of which I had never heard of before. The next thing you know, we were bundled on stage during the offertory! The next thing that happened...as they say, is history! It was a wonderful day afterall!
